Don't know if this is the rite place for this but yeah.
Please donate to the earthquake victims of Haiti.nOne easy method is to text Haiti to 90999. You would be making a 10 dollar donation to the red cross. The 10 dollars would be added to your phone bill.
People really need our help and 10 dollars isn't a lot so yeah hope you guys help out.
When I first saw this on a friend's Facebook status, I thought it was a hoax. However, I have since checked it out, and it's not. It's on the Red Cross website itself. I have already done this. When you send the initial text, you'll get a confirmation back, telling you to reply with the worrd, "Yes," if you want to make the donation. I really think it's an engenious fund-raising idea. From what I've heard, it's working very well for them.
That'sso cool! I should try it.
There are enough people, both in America, the country in which I'm living and in Greece, the country which I love, who are suffering. What is it with Americans that they never help their own first? They'd rather shell out huge sums of money to people all over the globe instead of helping to feed the homeless family down the block. Don't get me wrong. Things like international relief funds are great, but when you can't take care of your own people and the economy is bad, it just doesn't make much sense.
She's got a point, folks. But, Eleni, I think it's a balance of helping those at home, and those abroad. I did donate to the Red Cross thing for Haiti, but I've also made donations to causes here in the US, my own community, etc. They have not always been monitary, some have been my time and my work. I don't say this to brag about myself. God knows I'm no saint, and I've not always given as much as I could have or maybe should have. I only say all this to make a point. I personally believe one should do both, as they are able to. I recognize not everyone can give the same amounts of money and/or time, but I think you guys know what I'm getting at.
And, sometimes we do help our own. When 9/11 happened, or Hurricane Katrina, donations poured in from all over the country, of money, time, blood, etc. I'm not sure how much we got from other countries, but it wouldn't surprise me if we got aid from other countries as well.
Unfortunately, we notice the big tragedies like Haiti, 9/11, Katrina, etc, more than we do the small, every day tragedies of poverty and suffering closer to our home. It's not right, but it is reality.
also whyclef jean's fund: text yele to 501501 for $5 donations. sent two texts yesterday. It's sad that we only seem to really pay attention to big things like this and not as much for the little things but unfortunately it's reality. I do when i can donate clothes and food and such to homeless shelters here and my dad supports an orphanage in guyana where he's from. You can't help everyone but if you do what you can, that's better then not doing anything.
When I first heard about this, I thought it was a hoax too. But now that I know it isn't, I'm going to donate.
awesome stuff just bringing to the top because this people really need our help
Given that a strong after-shock just hit Haiti again, I'm updating to bring this back to the top of the boards for awhile.
i'm bringing this back to the top again, because i just reasontly saw on Ryan Seachrest's facebook that a cd is being made to help raze money for the earthquake victoms. i'm not sure if it's out yet, but i'll go take a look and post again with more details.
okay, it's a cover of REM's song Everybody hurts, and has about 21 big name artists on it, and is avalable at hmv.com, play.com and amazon.co.uk, as of Sunday January 7. funds will be split between 2 different agencies to help the victoms.
